Dog Safety

Dog with tag "Keep your dog Safe, Keep them Licensed"

Help keep Carlton safe and pet-friendly by making sure your dogs are licensed with Yamhill County and securely confined to your yard or home.  If walking your dog outside of your property, ensure the dog is on a leash at all times, as required by Carlton city ordinance.

When dogs run loose, it takes the Carlton Police Department time and resources to contain and reunite the dog with its owner.  Dogs running at large also create a significant safety concern to the public, as evidenced by previous incidents where loose dogs attacked people and other animals in Carlton.

Due to these factors, owners of dogs running at large will, in most cases, be issued a $265 citation for ORS 609.095 Dog as Public Nuisance.  Additionally, if the dog is not licensed with Yamhill County, the dog owner will be subject to a $265 citation for failing to license the dog, per ORS 609.100 Dog Licenses, Tags and Fees.
