Keep Stormwater Flowing Safely this Rainy Season

stormwater

With rainy weather in full swing, it’s a great time to make sure your home’s gutters, downspouts, and drainage systems are working properly. City code requires that rainwater, snowmelt, and runoff from roofs or other surfaces must not drain uncontrolled onto streets, sidewalks, or across pedestrian pathways. All stormwaters must be directed to an approved storm sewer, natural drainage channel, weep holes, or another permitted drainage system to help prevent flooding, property damage, and safety hazards.

To help keep stormwater flowing safely and prevent drainage issues, consider the following tips:

  • Clear leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts.
  • Ensure downspouts direct water away from walkways and neighboring properties.
  • Check that splash blocks or extensions are properly positioned.
  • Inspect yard drains, weep holes, and grates to ensure they are unobstructed.
  • Confirm grading around your home slopes away from foundations.
  • Watch for signs of erosion or standing water that may signal a drainage problem.
  • Make repairs promptly if gutters, downspouts, or drainage components are damaged.

Keeping your drainage system in good working order helps protect your home—and keeps our community safe.

Responsible Pet Ownership in Carlton

runaway dog

Help keep Carlton safe and pet-friendly by making sure your dogs are licensed with Yamhill County and securely confined to your yard or home. If walking your dog outside of your property, ensure the dog is on a leash at all times, as required by Carlton city ordinance.

When dogs run loose, it takes Carlton Police Department time and resources to contain and reunite the dog with its owner.  Dogs running at large also create a significant safety concern to the public, as evidenced by previous incidents where loose dogs attacked people and other animals in Carlton.

Due to these factors, owners of dogs running at large will, in most cases, be issued a $265 citation for ORS 609.095 Dog as Public Nuisance. Additionally, if the dog is not licensed with Yamhill County, the dog owner will be subject to a $265 citation for failing to license the dog, per ORS 609.100 Dog Licenses, Tags and Fees.

  • Dog licenses help reunite lost pets with their families
  • Dog licenses ensure that vaccinations are up to date
  • It’s required by law
  • Licensing supports vital animal services in our area

Please take a moment to check your fences and gates to ensure your dog cannot escape  There have been numerous recent incidents of dogs running at large. Even the friendliest pup can get into trouble when unsupervised.

Let’s work together to keep our pets safe and our neighbors comfortable. Thank you for being a responsible pet owner!
