COVID-19 Updates via Governor Brown

Masks are now required indoors and in large outdoor gatherings in Oregon.

New Indoor and Outdoor Mask Mandates in Effect as of August 27, 2021

On August 11, 2021, Governor Kate Brown announced a new statewide indoor mask requirement beginning Friday, August 13. An Indoor Mask Requirement Fact Sheet from the governor’s office provides important information about the mandate.

In the news release, Governor Brown stated, “We continue to work to reach Oregonians with information and a vaccine, but its clear the current situation requires immediate action to stop the Delta variant from spreading further. That’s why, moving forward for the immediate future, masks will be required in all indoor public settings.”

Masks help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Additionally, on August 24, 2021, Governor Brown announced a new statewide outdoor mask requirement beginning Friday, August 27. Oregonians will be required to wear masks in public outdoor settings where physical distancing is not possible, regardless of vaccination status.

State Health Officer Dr. Dean Sidelinger stated in the news release, “We  are starting to see instances where cases are clustering around events, like outdoor music festivals, that happen outdoors. Wearing masks in crowded settings – even outdoors – will help slow the spread of COVID-19.”

In accordance with the mandate, Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has updated it’s requirements for all workplaces to state “employers with employees working in indoor workspaces must implement the requirements of OAR 333-019-1025: Masking Requirements for Indoor Spaces, adopted by the Oregon Health Authority.”
