Traffic School
Traffic School, or a traffic diversion course, can be offered to a person by either the Judge, or the Violation's Bureau as long as certain qualifications are met. In most cases, completion of the diversion course, as directed by the court clerk or Judge, result in a dismissal of the violation(s) you received your citation for. When the violation(s) is/are dismissed, they do not appear on your driving record.
To qualify for a traffic diversion course the following criteria must be met:
- A defendant can not have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- A defendant can not have received a citation in the last two years
- A defendant can not have taken a traffic diversion course in the last two years
- The cited offense can not be higher that a class B violation
- The citation must not be for a cell phone violation
If the qualifications are met to take the traffic diversion course, the presumptive fine amount listed on the citation will be waived and a diversion fee will be assessed by the court in accordance with the Violation's Bureau Schedule of fines, or Judge order.
To inquire about traffic school eligibility, reach out the City of Carlton Municipal Court in person, or by calling 503.852.7575 during business hours (M-F from 8 AM to 4 PM).
