Overnight closures: the sewer replacement work on Grant Street is limited to the hours of 8am to 5pm. During these hours, through traffic is stopped for the one-block length of street under construction. The contractor has requested permission at some locations to maintain a road closure overnight. These overnight road closures stop traffic for a single short section of the block, located between driveways to ensure that all residents still have access to their homes.
These overnight closures let the contractor to leave some equipment in place overnight. By reducing setup time at the beginning and end of each day, the contractor has more productive hours between 8am and 5pm. The City has approved this approach because more productive hours means the project will be done more quickly and reduce overall impacts to residents. Specific overnight closure locations are being reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and if issues are noted at specific locations, changes will be made.
When there is a closure on your street, you will receive a “door hanger” with contact information for the contractor, and you can always let them know if an overnight closure is impacting access to your home or business. The contractor will maintain pedestrian access overnight whenever possible. Please be careful when you’re near a construction area, even outside of construction hours, and do not cross into areas marked by yellow caution tape.
