Please see below for info and details on the project related street closures on West Main Street:
West Main Street project weekly update (1/26):
- Weeks of 1/26 and 2/2 update: Work occurred from Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5pm. The contractor installed replacement sewer pipe on W Main Street, between Cunningham and Yamhill Streets. The contractor also reconnected existing sanitary sewer services (connections to houses) to the new pipe.
- Weeks of 1/26 and 2/2 forecast: Separate crews will be working day and night shifts.
- Day work: Work will occur from Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5pm. The contractor will install new water main on W Grant Street, between Carr and Yamhill Streets. Once the new water main is installed and tested, water services to houses will be reconnected to the new main. Individual blocks under construction may be closed to through traffic during working hours. Pedestrian access will be maintained whenever possible.
-
Night work: Work will occur from Monday through Thursday from 7pm to 5am. The contractor will connect new sewer pipe to the existing manholes at the intersection of Yamhill and Main Streets, and at the intersection of Pine and Grant Streets. Following completion of the work at these manholes, the contractor will install of new access points to sewer service pipes (called clean outs) in the sidewalk of the downtown area of Main Street. For some portions of the work, a detour will be in place during working hours for southbound traffic on Hwy 47, with vehicles detoured onto W Madison Street, rejoining Hwy 47 at the intersection of Main St and Pine Street. Flaggers will be in place to control traffic. Northbound traffic on Hwy 47 will not be detoured.
Estimated long-term schedule is outlined below. All dates are subject to adjustment based on work progress and field conditions.
- February 2026 – Sewer replacement on Main Street, between Cunningham and Yamhill Streets. Water main replacement on Grant Street, between Carr and Yamhill Streets.
- March 2026 – Trenchless rehabilitation of existing sewer on Main Street, between Yamhill and Pine Streets.
- February and March 2026 – new sidewalk on west side of Cunningham Street. New sidewalks on north side of Main Street, between Cunningham and Yamhill Streets. Repaving of north lane of Main Street, between Cunningham and Yamhill Streets. Repaving of Grant Street between Cunningham and Pine Streets. Paving is weather dependent and may occur later if adequately dry and warm weather is not available.
Additional Project Details-
Overnight closures: the sewer replacement work on Grant Street is limited to the hours of 8am to 5pm. During these hours, through traffic is stopped for the one-block length of street under construction. The contractor has requested permission at some locations to maintain a road closure overnight. These overnight road closures stop traffic for a single short section of the block, located between driveways to ensure that all residents still have access to their homes.
These overnight closures let the contractor to leave some equipment in place overnight. By reducing setup time at the beginning and end of each day, the contractor has more productive hours between 8am and 5pm. The City has approved this approach because more productive hours mean the project will be done more quickly and reduce overall impacts to residents. Specific overnight closure locations are being reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and if issues are noted at specific locations, changes will be made.
When there is a closure on your street, you will receive a “door hanger” with contact information for the contractor, and you can always let them know if an overnight closure is impacting access to your home or business. The contractor will maintain pedestrian access overnight whenever possible. Please be careful when you’re near a construction area, even outside of construction hours, and do not cross into areas marked by yellow caution tape.
Also please note, street paving and sidewalk installation is weather dependent and may not happen until March of 2026.
